Those Who Sustain Us is a series by my friend Selani about sustainable living for her website Arvo. Taking care of what takes care of us to be more specific. But in this series, Selani takes the opportunity to swing the focus. Both directly and indirectly, Those Who Sustain Us gives us the chance to reflect on our lives and show appreciation to people who help us keep moving forward. With an amazing design from, New York City based designer Micole, participants can take the time to send out these reflections to those who sustain them.

I was tapped for the second chapter of this series with Like Mind to take some portraits and document the interview process. Check out the photos and a brief excerpt from the series below.

“LikeMind was inspired & ideated in Japan and established in New York in 2015. New York and Japan are very deeply rooted into the brand. LikeMind is for the “like-minded” ones which in John and Christy’s words, are those who think a bit differently and like to swim upstream.

The reason why we chose LikeMind to interview for this week’s “Those Who Sustain Us” is because we believe community and mental health are huge elements of keeping each other and ourselves sustained throughout life.

Our favorite part of interviewing John and Chrissi was reflecting back on the people who have sustained them. Their life is a wonderful reflection of thinking about others, sticking together, and keeping faith and hope as pillars of sustaining themselves.”
